Start of the Guild Trail

The trail, actually a railbed from the 1880s, begins just across Ochs Highway.

Guild Trailhead

Thanks to the Lookout Mountain Conservancy, hikers now enjoy a parking area and trailhead near the bottom of Ochs Highway that provides magnificent access to a wonderful and easy path for walking, biking, and historic sightseeing: the Jo Conn Guild trail. Formerly the site of a tiny pullover on the side of a very busy road, this trailhead now has room for a dozen vehicles, and it's a rare day that you don't see at least one parked here.

To reach the trailhead from the base of the mountain, go past the Incline in St. Elmo, then bear right onto Ochs Highway up the mountain, following the signs towards Rock City. With a quarter mile, shortly after you round a sweeping turn to the right and then curve back to the left, you'll see the gravel parking lot on your left at the intersection of a road called, appropriately, Guild Trail.

Start Your Hike

The Guild Trail is your only choice from this trailhead, but it's a good one if you're looking for an easy walk that crosses several historic sites.
